Community Question - Kamikaze type enemies/hazards


  • We are working on designing several new enemy types, one of them being those that explode if the player touches them. These can be used to keep you on your toes and aware of your surroundings.

    They also may be used in boss encounters. One example being that a big mandroid fires off some heat seeking landmines that the players will then need to avoid or do various actions to neutralise the mines.

    This kind of enemy has been featured in other games, our question to you is do you find them annoying in some way (maybe you got blown up in one hit on a hardcore Diablo character).

  • I would suggest making the suiciders hidden when the players enter a room, suddenly tripping some sensors or alarm, thus releasing the beast.

  • An interesting idea there actually.

    Imagine a situation where just before entering a room your group has a chance to hack a terminal. If done correctly it can deactivate some of the bombs or mines or guardians giving an easier chance.
