Community Question: Interactive Crafting Event?

  • Regarding crafting. Would it be interesting if a random skill/reaction event popped up while crafting an item?

For example it could be something like a progress bar pops up. In the middle of the bar there is a marker to denote a "perfect" score on clicking/pressing a particular button at the correct time during the progress of the craft.

There is a similar system in Fable 3. Check the picture as an example of what it could be like.
Succeeding would give a better chance of a critical craft and would give players a more involved input than just selecting materials and pressing make.

Let us know what you think.

  • Depends if crafting is something you do a lot. If you dont do it a lot; I can see that having a mini-game could be appropriate.

However, if you can expect players to craft countless times (every session), a mini-game might become tedious.
Wouldn't want it to become a "chore" to play. Ever. There is a reason we "play" and not "work" when playing games :)

Just my quick take on it.

  • It would not be a complex process and failure would not impact on the base chance of successfully making an item. Just taking part and succeeding would give some bonus for being there to concentrate on the craft of an item itself..

It could also give a crafting time bonus to make things go a bit quicker.

Think of it as though the crafter gives their full attention to a particularly special craft. Mass batches of items that they dont really care about go uncared for in terms of taking part in the event.
