Skills and Abilities - Discussion

  • I have a question about skills and abilities. Will there be skills that are magic based, kind of like Shadowrun. With a good mix magic and technology that would be awesome. It's one of the main reasons I like games like Shadowrun and the like. I find if there is something of a magic type skills mixed with all the guns makes a nice spicy taco :)
    If not that's cool as long as there are a lot of different types of guns, so I'm not doing the same thing as far as gameplay goes. I find if there are just guns and done wrong it gets repetitive, I mean I'm shooting bullets no matter what my gun looks like. I mean just arguments that hides blades for melee type combat anything that stops exile from being just a third person shooter in a cyberpunk environment. I'm really looking forward to see how you guys make the Combat and skills feel unique.

  • Maybe certain "magic" habilities for certain species wouldn't hurt, but we have to remember this is not a fantasy game, it's a cyberpunk one. :D

  • Yea I know its a Cyberpunk setting, I was just wondering if there will be any abilities like Telekinetic in nature or the like. Anything that gives gameplay more then just shooting guns, hell even drones or anything would work. If its just gun fights, I just feel it can get very repetitive fast. I think Shadowrun does a great job giving players abilities that spice up the gameplay along side the guns. Even in Cyberpunk 2020 there were Psychic powers.

    There are indeed psychic powers and things such as drones :)

    Thanks for the info, now I can safely say that Exile online is the MMO I'm looking forward to the most :)

  • The novel "Catspaw" involves psionics in a Cyberpunk world, is by Joan D Vinge . There is at least one or 2 more with the main char. named 'Cat' . I think the first book is Psion.

  • The game 'Cyberpunk 2020' is fairly easygoing about psionics and magic. I would say that the main book, attesting Style over Substance, is, rules - wise 80% Style and 20% Substance... There were written optional stuff like Werewolves and Vampires for use with the rules, even was a text file about 'Highlander Punk' ... While I would enjoy the additional content, anything other than guns, motor vehicles, and cybernetics should probably be left as rare...
